Jerez de la Frontera Fair 2024: A Fair with Tradition

The Horse Fair of Jerez de la Frontera is one of the most traditional bullfighting events in Andalusia. With a select audience, in the bullring of Circo Street, good bullfighting is savoured. Rafael de Paula, a universal Jerez native, marked the cycle of his land for decades, which also featured bullfighters of artistic and classic style to accompany this brilliant gypsy. Curro Romero, Ordóñez, Manolo Vázquez, Manzanares…

On the other hand, Paquirri and Ojeda first, and Padilla later, won the applause of their countrymen every spring, always with the iconic Tío Pepe advertisement on the barrier boards as a witness. Another of the hallmarks of a different fair and bullring, a bullfighting reference in the province along with the Real Plaza of El Puerto de Santa María.

In this 2024, the company Funtausa has scheduled two luxury bullfights around the weekend of May 10 and 11. Two events to maintain the level of a series that has also been a showcase in the livestock scene throughout history, as there are many herds that gather around this area, known and named “Ruta del Toro” and therefore, very high competition.

In fact, although neither of the two ranches graze properly in the region, both their origins and those of their owners are found in these lands. On Saturday 10, a bullfight is announced from Jandilla / Vegahermosa, owned by Borja Domecq Noguera, which will be accounted for by three figures with three concepts as different as they are complementary: Alejandro Talavante, Roca Rey and Pablo Aguado.

And the next day (Sunday 11) it will be Morante de la Puebla, Sebastián Castella and José María Manzanares who close the subscription to face a bullfight from Juan Pedro Domecq Morenés. Morante and Manzanares are true idols of this hobby, while Castella, first figure, finishes the poster in a big way. Another high-ranking trio and many contrasts in the ring for all the nuances that each of them has in front of the bull.

And as it could not be otherwise, the programming is extended by a rejoneo event, also of superior rank, in which the cheerful ride of a young and mature Andy Cartagena, the supremacy of Diego Ventura as the foremost figure of this art today and the freshness of the French Léa Vicens, who will fight, along with her companions a bullfight from Fermín Bohórquez, another brand and another surname very linked to this city. Undoubtedly, a bullfight of this level could not be missing in a cycle like this which, for something, they call it the Horse Fair.
